KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Port Bhd, a member of the MMC Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia IV (Pelindo IV) that will involve several collaborations, including a sister port partnership programme.
The MoU will also pave the way for Johor Port to share its experience and expertise with Pelindo IV in the areas of port training services, consultation on container and conventional operations and collaboration on inter-port logistics services.
“These operators (Pelindo IV and MMC Ports) hold various expertise in ports management and this collaboration serves as a catalyst that will spur further development and quality of our port operations, competencies and efficiencies alongside other international players,” said Johor Port chairman Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh.
Pelindo IV managing director Doso Agung and Johor Port chief executive officer Shahrull Allam Shah Abdul Halim signed the MoU at Universitas Pattimura in Ambon, Indonesia.
The milestone event further strengthened the collaboration between Pelindo IV and MMC Ports which not only covered the provision of port training services but also encompassed the collaboration on inter-port logistics services and other collaborative initiatives under a sister port partnership programme.
Under port training services, some of the competency development programmes, as agreed between the two companies, include training for container and conventional terminal operations, operation of cranes and forklifts, and handling of other terminal equipment.
All of the trainings will be conducted by Johor Ports’ own Johor Port Skill Centre (JPSC), an accredited Human Resource Development Fund-approved training provider that currently offers training to major local ports.
JPSC is also collaborating with the Department of Skills Development and the Johor Economic Planning Unit to provide port operational and technical training to school leavers, Che Khalib said.
Under the sister port partnership programme, Johor Port Bhd and MMC Ports would also develop joint-marketing activities with Pelindo IV ports to further enhance feeder service to the eastern Indonesian region. — Bernama
